Bungie is outraged by the actions taken by its former partner.
Bungie issued an announcement following the recent accusations of toxic workplace behaviorThe company said it has “a obligation to recognizereflection, examine, and take action to do our best to combat a persistent culture of harassment, abuse, and inequality that exists within our industry.”
The announcement was made via the official Twitter feed of Bungieon Tuesday, where it addressed the harassment culture at work for womenand how Bungie is trying to improve and improve.
Bungie announced, “Bungie is built around empowerment of our employees regardless of what, whereor how they identify.” We are responsible for acknowledgingthe importance of reflecting and working to tackle the persistent culture of bullying and harassment within our business.
“It’s our responsibility to make sure that such conduct is not allowed to be tolerated by Bungie at any leveland that we don’t excuse or brush it under the rug. We are hoping that this week’s announcements will bring justice, awareness, accountability, and justice. Bungie has a zero tolerance policy for environmental and cultural toxins. We’re committed to removing people at risk.
The statement concluded with the words that Bungie will not pretend to be perfectand no one has ever been harmed in the workplace, but we won’t allow it to happen and will tackle it face-to-face. We will keep working hard every day to improve. We are determined to improve the Bungie experience and make gaming more accessible to all.
Bungie’s statement is especially notable because it had previously collaborated with Activision for the original release of both Destiny games, prior to separating into an independent studio. There’s not any evidence of a major rift between the two studios, however it’s clear that the relationship was not greatand something Bungie might want to distance itself further.
